Ike Inachu Takyubu

STORY

This is a gag cartoon with a focus on the men table tennis club of ‘Inachu’, Inatoyo Junior High School.
Maeno who likes indecent and meaningless things, is one of the main characters and he only quibbles dough, and is a problem boy.
Izawa is the best friend of Maeno, and is also a perverse.
He always hung out with Maeno and shows unprecedented personality, but he also has common sense aspect sometimes.
Tanaka seems small and pretty at the first time, but is also a perverse.
He goes his own way and shocks around by his odd behavior.
Tanabe is half, who has kind personality, but nobody can expect what will happen once he gets mad.
Despite that he extremely smells, nobody can tell him it because they are scared.
Including the captain Takeda and sub captain Kinoshita, the table tennis club’s daily life is comically drawn in this cartoon.

This is one of the best 10 gag cartoons that have ever built in this age.
Others are ‘Obocchama-kun,’ the super rich boy, and ‘Sugoiyo! Masaru-san,’ a monumental work of surreal cartoon, and so on.
Will introduce you them someday.
Centering on the table tennis club at Toyonaka junior high school, the story of Inachu goes with the unconventional gags.
Definitely, you laugh about it without notice.
While there were too many dirty jokes, drawing and the gags awake from the middle.
Especially the female characters are cute, while the ugly ones are thoroughly ugly.
My favorite story is ‘Play Woman’ that are likely to exist in the real world, and that’s why it make me laugh.
That is that Maeno and Izawa feel strange to ugly women who learn self-defense tactics.
But I won’t explain about it because it is fool to explain a gag cartoon by sentences.
Anyways, you can read the comics many times.
Regardless that I remember the story of the comics, that still makes me laugh when I think of it, and I repeatedly pull them out from the shelf for the laugh.

行け！稲中卓球部

STORY

稲豊市立稲豊中学校、通称「稲中」の男子卓球部を中心としたギャグマンガである。
下品なこと、無意味なことが大好きな前野。屁理屈ばかりこねて、周囲を困らせる問題児、作中の騒動の中心的人物。
前野の親友であり、同じく「変態」である井沢。前野と行動を共にし、破天荒っぷりを発揮するものの、常識的な一面を見せることも。
小柄で一見かわいく見えるが、やっぱり「変態」である田中。我が道を行く、型破りな行動は周囲に衝撃を与える。
ハーフで心優しい性格ながら、キレると何をしでかすかわからない田辺。極度のワキガであるが、傷つきやすい性格のため、誰も口にできないでいる。
そしてツッコミ役の、部長竹田と、副部長木下を加えた6人の学園生活を、コミカルに描いた青春ギャグマンガである。

時代を築いたギャグマンガ10傑のひとつである。ちなみに他の豪傑は、超大金持ち御曹司マンガの「おぼっちゃまくん」や、シュールマンガの金字塔である「すごいよ!!マサルさん」などである。いずれ紹介したい。
「稲中卓球部」は稲豊市立稲豊中学校の卓球部員を中心としたお話で、型破りなギャグに思わず笑ってしまうという言葉がよく似合う。
序盤は若干シモネタによる笑いが多めであったが、中盤から画力とネタが覚醒する。
特に女性が可愛く、また不細工な女性はトコトン不細工（上手な不細工）なんである。
お気に入りの回は、現実的にありそうな設定が妙に笑いを誘う「不美人」。
護身術を習っている不細工な女性に、前野と井沢が違和感を持つという話しなんだけど、ギャグマンガの内容を文章で伝えることは無謀なので割愛。
とにかく何度も読めるマンガで、話をある程度覚えているにも関わらずニタニタしてしまい、そのニタニタを求めて何度何度もも本棚からひっこぬくことになる。

舞姫 テレプシコーラ

STORY

母親の営むバレエ教室で、小学校5年生の篠原六花（ゆき）と1つ上の姉千花（ちか）はバレエを習っている。
のんびりした性格の六花は、練習不足のためか足が180度に開かなかったのだが、母と共に行った病院で股関節の異常が原因だったことを知る。
優秀な姉と比べられながらも自分のペースでバレエに向かい合ってきた六花だったが、身体的欠陥を知らされ、バレエを止めることを決心する。
そんな時、同じくバレエをやっている六花の同級生空美は、父の借金のためバレエを続けることができなくなっていた。
空美はレッスン場をタダで貸して欲しいと六花に頼み、六花は無料体験の日ならばと返事を返す。
初めて見た空美の踊る姿は大変素晴らしく、姉の千花さえライバル視するもので、次第にバレエへの気持ちを取り戻していく。
再び踊り始めた六花、素晴らしいデビューを飾った千花、順調と思われた篠原家であったが、千花は舞台上のアクシデントで大怪我を負うことになる。
2人は果たして一流のプロダンサーになることができるのか？
プロの高みという1つの道を進む少女達の成長、そして苦悩を描く。

いわゆる昔の少女漫画風の絵であり、少年・青年マンガばかり読んできた人には敷居が高いかもしれないが、絵だけで判断せずにまずは数巻読んでほしい。
主人公六花（ゆか）と姉の千花（ちか）のプロダンサーを目指す物語である。
いきなりネタばれから始めると、姉の千花が自殺してしまうのだが、自殺までの読み手を不安にさせる展開が、とにかく心を揺さぶる。
大きな大会で優勝し、将来を期待されるダンサーであるという状況、優秀すぎるための同年代からの妬みやイジメ、そして膝の怪我。
手術とリハビリを繰り返し、最後の望みをかけた靭帯生体移植手術は成功したものの、千花の膝はホンの少しだけ曲がらなくなってしまう。苦悩、絶望、そして自殺へと・・・。
ページをめくるごとにつきまとう不安が、心をしめつけ自分を勝手にあやつり、千花の死の１ページを開いた時には涙がこぼれてしまった。
お薦めしたい漫画であるが、本棚に置いとくだけで悲しくなってしまいそう。

Maihime Terepsikola

STORY

Yuki Shinohara, 5th grade at elementary school, and Chika, one year older sister, learn ballet at their mother’s ballet school.
Yuki goes at her pace.
One day, she can’t open her legs wide enough, 180 degree, and she doubts it might be because of lack of practice, but she and her mother find that that is because of abnormal hip joint at the hospital.
Then she decides to quit learning ballet.
At that time, Yuki’s classmate, Sorami, faces the realty that she can no longer to continue the ballet for the debts of his father.
Sorami asks Yuki to borrow the lesson room free, and Yuki answers “OK” when it is free trail day.
Sorami’s dance is quite attractive and that is even her sister regards Sorami rival, so that gradually lets Yuki get the passion back for ballet again.
Then Yuki begins to dance again, and Chika greatly debuts.
Despite well coming Shinohara family, Chika gets serious injury in an accident on stage.
Will they be first-class professional dancers?
It is written the growth and distress of the girls who go the way for professional ballet dancers.

COMMENT by Shun

This is a typical old fashioned girl’s cartoon, so it might be a little bit higher thresholds for guys who have been reading only boy’s cartoons, but please read some once without judging it by the drawing.
Story is that Yuka and her sister are seeking the way to be a professional dancer.
Starting with spoilers suddenly, Chika commits suicide in the story.
And the development that stirs up readers moves me a lot.
She has various distresses that come from the fact of winning a big tournament and expectation from surroundings, jealousy and bullying from the same age because she is too good, and the injury of knees.
She repeatedly receives surgery and rehabilitation, and regardless that biological ligament transplant surgery succeeded, her knees can’t bend as used to doing.
That brings her anguish and despair, and finally leads her to suicide.
The stalking fear when turning each page tightens my heart and manipulates me and it made my eyes spill tears when I open the page that Chika dies.
Although I want to recommend the comics, it makes me sad by only leaving them at the bookshelf.

殺し屋1

STORY

究極のドＭである安生組の若頭垣原は、失踪した安生組長が、新宿歌舞伎町のハグレ者グループに殺されたことを知り、ハグレ者グループを捜索し、徐々に追い詰めていく。
ハグレ者グループの一員である気弱な主人公イチは、グループのリーダーである「ジジイ」に洗脳されており、普段は弱虫であるが武装スーツに身を包んだら最後、殺戮マシーンへと変貌を遂げ、垣原からの刺客を返り討ちにしていく。
身の内に強いサディスティック性を秘めたイチと、イチに命を狙われる事に喜びを感じる極度のマゾヒストである垣原との対決を中心に、安生組とハグレ者グループの抗争を描く。

ストーリー的には破門になった半端もののヤクザと本筋のヤクザの抗争であるが、それはただのおまけである。
度の過ぎた暴力表現や、異質な性癖表現が「殺し屋1」の本質である。
例えば暴力表現ならば、血や臓物の乱舞など軽いほうで、素手のみで腕を引きちぎったり、○○○を二股に切断したりと、エグさが際立つ。
人を殺すことで性的興奮を感じる主人公イチ、拷問をするのも受けるのも好む垣原の絡みに注目したい。
随所に目をそらしたくなるようなシーンが散りばめられているのだが、見たくないけど見たいという言葉がぴったりで、
ついついページをめくってしまう、中毒性があるのである。
これを書きながら小生は、香辛料理を「辛い、辛い！」と言いつつ完食してしまうそれを思い出した。

Ichi, the killer

STORY

The mad masochist Kakihara, the chief of Aso group, knows that his boss Aso was killed by a Shinjuku Kabukicho outcast group.
So he searches them, and drives them into the corner little by little.
The main character, Ichi, is a member of the outcast group, and is brainwashed by the group leader, Jiji.
Ichi is usually chicken and crybaby, but once he wears the battle suit, he turns to a killer machine that can easily kill the assassins from Kakihara.
This cartoon mainly goes with the two man, Ichi who is having an exclusive sadisms in his body, and Kakihara who is feeling ecstasy that he is been aimed by Ichi, including those two groups.

COMMENT by Shun

The story is about the battle of an armature Yakuza against real Yakuza, but that’s just the surface of this cartoon.
The real point of this cartoon is the extremely violent expression and weird sexual propensity.
For instance, the expression of spread blood and internal organs is just the beginning. The harder ones are the scenes that one tears off of other’s arms by his arms, or one divides other’s dick into two parts… horrible anyways.
Ichi gets ecstasy by homicide while Kakihara loves torturing and being tortured, and let’s get your eyes closer to their relations.
So many gross scenes are all around in the books, but it is exactly like this; “I don’t want to see them but they force my eyes to keep gazing.’
I can’t stop reading…
In short, it is very addicted.
This reminds me that we can’t stop eating the spicy food while we keep saying "this is so hot!"

はじめの一歩

STORY

母子家庭で普段は温厚で気弱な性格の主人公幕之内一歩が、高校時代に不良にいじめられていたところを、ロードワークで通りがかったプロボクサー鷹村守に助けられ、鷹村の強さに憧れた一歩は鴨川ジムを尋ね、ボクシングに魅せられる。
家業の釣り船屋で自然と鍛えられた足腰と腕っ節の強さ、ボクシングに対する真摯な姿勢で、メキメキと上達していく。
一歩と同じ年で子供の頃からボクシングをやっている宮田とスパーリングをし負けを喫するも、ジムの会長の的確なアドバイス、また運も味方しリベンジに成功。
宮田とは互いに認め合う生涯のライバルとなる。
新人戦での並み居る猛者たちとの激戦、クレバーかつ経験豊富である日本チャンピオンの伊達とのタイトルマッチを経て、着実に成長し、伊達戦後、攻防一体のラッシュ「デンプシーロール」を習得し、更なる高みを目指し突き進む。
世界チャンピオンを目指す一歩、加えて仲間・ライバル達の多彩なボクサーズロードを描く。

日本３大週刊マンガのひとつである「週刊少年マガジン」の看板マンガとして、20年近く連載しているボクシングマンガである。
主人公幕之内一歩を主軸にジムの仲間やライバルの戦いまでも詳細に描いており、各々が主人公級の扱いとなり、タイトル戦やデビュー戦が同時進行で進んでいくため、長期連載ながらも全くだれることなく読める。
小生は↑を書きながらゲームのファイナルファンタジー6の有名な言葉を思い出した。
「FF6には主人公がいない。いるのは魅力的な脇役達だけである。」
閑話休題。
コミックも100巻近く続いており、これ以上面白さを書く必要もないので別視点でひとつ（以下持論）。
未読の人が「はじめの一歩」を薦められたとしても巻数を見ただけで、こんなにもあるのか・・・と、諦めてしまうだろう。
ひとつのマンガで最も売れる「巻数」は1巻である。1巻から買い始めるのが当たり前で、途中で買うのを止める人はいても、途中から買い始める人は少ない。それを考えると2番目に売れるのは2巻であり、3番目は3巻となり、巻数が進むにつれ売上は下降線を辿るであろう。
それを回避する手法として「リセット」がある。
「リセット」とは連載が長くなってきた場合に、ストーリーのきりが良いところで第一部として完結し、続きを第二部として再度1巻から開始する方法である。未読の人も新規に購入しやすくなり、下降線を再び上昇させる理にかなった方法だ。
それを踏まえて「はじめの一歩」を見てみると、ストーリー性が強いにも関わらず、1度もリセットすることなく長期連載を続けている硬派な良作である。冊数が多いから読むのをためらうのではなく、これから100冊近くも楽しむことができるのかという気持ちで読もう。

Hajime no Ippo

STORY

The main character, Ippo Makunouchi, grows as modest and shy in a single mother home.
When he was in high school, he got in trouble that he was tangled with hoodlum.
There he was helped by a professional boxer, Mamoru Takamura, from them while Takamura was on his roadwork.
Ippo got attracted by Takamura’s strength and visited to Kamogawa gym which the one Takamura belongs.
This is how Ippo starts his way of boxer.
He has been trained by his work, fishing boat rental shop that his mother owns, regardless of his intention to be strong.
Besides, he always practices very diligently; as a result, he quickly improved.
Although he gets beat by Miyata, who is the same age of Ippo and has been boxing since he was kid during sparing, later he successfully revenges Miyata with his coach’s accurate advices and because of luck.
Ippo and Miyata become the lifetime rivals each other from then.
Ippo grows up stepping with those dead heats with the strong rivals in freshman tournament and the title match with Date who is the clever Japan champion and has lots of experience.
After the match with Date, Ippo obtained ‘Dempsey Roll’ that Ippo can offend and defend simultaneously, and he moves forward aiming higher.
In this cartoon, various boxers’ roads are written that are of Ippo who is aiming to be the world champion, and of his colleagues and rivals.

This is the front cartoon of Shonen Magazine, one of the three biggest weekly cartoon magazines in Japan, and this boxing cartoon has been published for more than 20 years.
Written not only the main character (though centering on Ippo of course) but including his colleagues and rivals in detail, those colleagues and rivals appear as much as Ippo just like spin-off cartoons.
Their stories go on simultaneously, so you don’t get bored when you read this long lasting cartoon.
I, Doctor Ito, remember the famous words that come up in the Final Fantasy Six, the famous role playing game, when writing this comment; that is, ‘There is no main character in FF6. There are only some attractive sub characters.’
The comics are now more than 100 books published, and I don’t think there is no need to write about how cool this cartoon is.
So, let me write about another aspect of this cartoon.
Please forgive me but what written below are all about my biased opinions;
Perhaps, most of people who are recommended to read this cartoon will give up on reading when they see the quantity of this cartoon.
The most saleable book in comics is the first one, of course.
Usually people read a cartoon from the beginning not the middle.
With that aspect, then the second saleable would be the second one, and third as well.
In order to avoid that, an effective technique is to reset.
To reset is to divide the comics into some different titles with that first part of the cartoon finishes at a designated point and new chapter begins.
By this way, those people who have not read the first chapter will likely to buy the new chapter.
Concerning this method, however, this cartoon never reset before although this has the strong story aspect.
Let’s not think to read ‘too many comics,’ rather think as ‘how happy to read this cartoon 100 times!’

I’’s

STORY

主人公瀬戸一貴はクラスメートの葦月伊織（よしづきいおり）に一目惚れし、ずっと想いを寄せていた。
葦月伊織は演劇部に所属し役者を目指しており、端麗な顔立ちの美少女で校内でも大人気の存在であった。
一貴は小学校の時に片思いだった子に振られるというトラウマにより、振られるぐらいならずっと片思いで良いという考えを持っていたが、学校行事の実行委員を二人でやることになり距離が近づいていくこととなる。
そんな折、一貴の幼馴染であり一貴に恋心を抱く秋葉いつきがアメリカから帰国し、微妙な三角関係が始まる。
無邪気で愛くるしいいつきと、控え目で清楚な伊織の間で揺れる一貴。進級、進学するにつれ現れる魅力ある登場人物、そして新たに始まる三角関係。一貴と伊織を主軸とした本格的恋愛マンガを描く。

№1マンガ雑誌である「少年ジャンプ」にはラブコメ枠がというものがあり、例えば小生が子供の頃だと「きまぐれオレンジロード」、「電影少女」、近頃だと「いちご100%」、「ToLoveる」が連載されていた。
これらのマンガの共通点は「微エロ」である。ハプニングによるパンチラや胸チラは、少年ジャンプのメイン読者層である小中高生を惹きつける重要な要素なのである。無論小生も、圧倒的な画力で1980年代1990年代と、ラブコメ枠キングの名を欲しいままにしてきた桂正和先生のマンガには強い思い入れがある。
そんななか「I''s」に目を向けると、微エロ要素のほとんどない、ラブコメと言うよりも恋愛マンガの部類に入る、少年ジャンプでは珍しい作品であった。
個人的には桂先生お得意のシャープなSF要素を織り交ぜた恋愛マンガの方が好みであるが、桂先生の作品で最も長期連載となったのも事実である。
「I''s」の連載が終了し桂先生は「少年ジャンプ」を去り、その後「少年ジャンプ」ではラブコメ作品が同時に2作連載されるという歴史的事件が起こったわけであるが、その話はまたいつか…。

I’’s

STORY

Ichitaka Seto, the main character, falls in love with Iori Yoshizuki at first sight.
Iori aspires to becoming an actress with belonging to drama club.
With her good looking face, she is always very popular at school.
On the other hand, due to the fact that Ichitaka has experienced to be dumped by a girl whom Ichitaka used to love, he thinks he would rather be single than confessing his true feeling.
But, it begins to close each other that they both become a member of planning committee of a school event.
Meanwhile, Itsuki Akiba, who is an Ichitaka’s childhood friend and likes Ichitaka, comes back from US, and then a strange triangle relation appears among the three.
Between Itsuki who is innocent and lovely, and Iori who is modest and pure, Ichitaka’s feeling volatiles.
As moving up class and school, Ichitaka meets more charming newcomers, and new triangle relations begin there.
Focusing on Ichitaka and Iori, a real love story is played in this cartoon .

There is always a love comedy space in Shonen Jump that is definitely the No.1 weekly cartoon magazine in Japan.
Historically, those are xx, xx, xx and xx, xx, xx when I was kid and nowadays respectively.
The common point among them is ‘a little bit of sexy shots’.
The shots revealing underwear or boobs of cute girls by happenings are always important factors to attract the main readers; those are boys!
Of course, I, Dr. Ito, also have a special feeling to Katsura’s cartoons and I would say they are obviously No.1 love comedy in 80’s and 90’s by his overwhelming drawing techniques.
Nevertheless, pointing on I’s, I can barely find such ‘a little bit of sexy shots.’
I’s is rather a pure love story than a love comedy, and this case is very rare in the Jump.
Personally I prefer such love story cartoon that has sharp SF factors, and that is Katsura’s strong style.
Regardless that, this cartoon had been published for the longest period in Katsura’s cartoons ever.
After I’s finished and Katsura left the Jump, the Jump newly started two different love comedy cartoons, and that was a historical event!
However, that is another story and I will talk about this later… someday.
